The Centerpoint Vocational Program
The Centerpoint Vocational Program/Centerpoint Workshop is a training program for adult clients. Clients served by our program reside within residential facilities of the Center which is located in a neighboring community. The ultimate goal of our program is to assist our clients in acquiring skills which will lead to competitive employment. The services provided by our program include training in the following areas: mail assembly, job readiness, job seeking skills, interviewing skills, personal counseling, and vocational counseling. Two levels of programming are offered: sheltered employment and supported employment.
The program is designed for clients whose functional level requires a high degree of supervision. Job skill training is provided to develop each client’s ability to perform production work projects. Wages are paid to clients on a piece-rate basis. Special emphasis is placed on the development of appropriate work attitudes and behaviors that are desired for advancement into the work world.
Some of the services our clients provide for our customers include folding, labeling, collating, assembling packets, postage metering, bulk-mail/zip sorting, and stuffing. Many of our customers have been doing business with us for a number of years and have referred other businesses to us.
The goal of the supported employment level is competitive employment. The purpose is for each client to develop an identity and self-respect that results from being a contributing member of society. This program provides pay-for-work experiences by placing clients on either community based work crews or at individual employment sites with job coach support and training. Each client participates in work adjustment training sessions to learn job seeking/retention skills and to promote social-emotional growth.
