Centerview Therapeutic SchoolThe mission of Centerview Therapeutic School is to provide educational, therapeutic and vocational services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing and have significant emotional, developmental and/or behavioral disorders. Residential programming is available in small, therapeutic, community-based environments for those students who require a more intensive level of service. Total communication is utilized by all staff in the program.
A client-focused therapy program and an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) are developed with the family, school district and Centerview staff. The curricula of the local elementary and high school districts are mirrored. The academic program is strongly language-based to address deficits in vocabulary, concepts and grammatical structures which a significant hearing loss may impose. Skills are developed through a high level of visual and experiential support. Centerview Therapeutic School provides a therapeutic learning environment for each student. This includes individual and group counseling and a school-wide behavioral management program that emphasizes Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. The staff are trained to work with students who have emotional and behavioral issues. |
