Senior Maintenance Technician ​

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:00 pm

Position Description:
The Senior Maintenance Technician maintains safe, clean, functional, and well-presented facilities across assigned locations. This position provides hands-on maintenance, cleaning, groundskeeping, and facility support while coordinating work orders, vendors, contractors, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities include:
 
Facility Maintenance & Operations

• Maintain the interior and exterior of assigned buildings to ensure they are safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance and identify potential maintenance, safety, or environmental concerns.
• Complete work orders accurately, safely, and within established timelines.
• Perform basic maintenance and repairs, including minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general building repairs.
• Coordinate and/or respond to maintenance-related emergencies and take appropriate action to protect individuals, employees, buildings, and property.
• Inspect facilities regularly and report needed repairs, safety concerns, or conditions requiring specialized services.
• Travel between multiple organizational sites as assigned.
  
  

Cleaning & Building Preparation

• Perform daily and periodic cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning walls, windows, restrooms, and other common areas.
• Empty, clean, and maintain trash and recycling containers as needed.
• Perform specialized cleaning projects, including carpet cleaning and floor stripping and waxing, based on facility needs.
• Prepare vacant residential units for occupancy by cleaning, painting, completing minor repairs, and ensuring the unit is safe and ready for use.
  
  

Grounds & Seasonal Maintenance

• Maintain exterior areas, sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, and landscaped spaces.
• Perform seasonal maintenance, including snow and ice removal and application of salt or other approved materials to walkways and paved areas.
• Assist with landscaping and general groundskeeping activities.
  
  

Vendor & Contractor Coordination

• Coordinate and oversee contractors and external vendors performing maintenance, repair, cleaning, or other facility-related services.
• Ensure vendors and contractors complete work safely, professionally, accurately, and within agreed-upon timelines.
• Communicate facility needs and expectations clearly to vendors and contractors.
• Inspect completed work and communicate concerns or deficiencies to the appropriate supervisor or department.
• Assist with obtaining estimates, scheduling services, and coordinating access to facilities as needed.
  
  

Team Leadership & Development

• Provide day-to-day directions and support to maintenance staff.
• Establish clear expectations and priorities and monitor completion of assigned responsibilities.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to support employee performance and professional development.
• Model accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and solution-oriented problem-solving.

Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, and move between sitting and standing positions.
• Kneel and transition between sitting, bending, kneeling, and standing multiple times throughout the workday.
• Climb ladders and safely work at elevated heights.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Perform duties both indoors and outdoors and work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, snow, and rain.
• Safely operate or use maintenance-related tools and equipment.

 
 Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1–3 years of relevant facilities, maintenance, custodial, or building operations experience.
• Demonstrated experience with basic electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, or general building maintenance.
• Familiarity with building systems, routine maintenance practices, and emergency response procedures.
• Ability to prioritize multiple work orders and respond appropriately to urgent facility needs.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, vendors, and contractors.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between organizational locations

Residential Care Workers / DSP

We are currently hiring Mental Health Workers and DSPs for our adult residential program located in Northbrook and Glenview. The Center on Deafness serves adults who are Deaf and have an intellectual disability or mental health needs. Full time positions include benefits. Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $19.50 per hour

Shifts Available:
Day Shifts: Saturday and Sunday 8:30 - 4:30
Evening shifts: Sunday - Saturday 3:00 - 11:00
Overnight Shifts Monday - Saturday 10:45pm - 8:45am

Job Duties Include:

• Provide an environment where individuals feel safe and supported
• Supervise clients to ensure safety and well-being
• Assist and teach ADL skills such as food preparation, laundry, and other household tasks
• Facilitate community outings; including driving
• Lead individual and group skill-building activities in the areas of daily living, social skills, and community integration.
• Encourage positive relationship building
• Implement treatment plans
• Timely completion of all required documentation
• Ensure the home meets quality standards for cleanliness

Job Requirements:

• Must possess a valid driver's license
• Minimum high school diploma
• Experience is preferred, but will train
• Sensitivity, awareness, and understanding of the client's needs
• Ability to handle disruptive behaviors in a calm, professional manner
• Ability to pass a background check
